Book Review: Vampire Academy the Ultimate Guide

Yet another book that wasn't on my list! Also, I fear this may drop my credibility as a reviewer but I have my reasons as to why I'm reviewing this.

Before I begin my 'review'--and I'll use that lightly--I'd like to say one thing, and this is where my credibility falls on the line: I skipped the majority of the book. Don't look at me like that. Here's the reason why: the first part is just a recap of each book. Now, if you were to go to my read shelf on Goodreads, you'd probably see that I finished the series a few years ago so I didn't really want to read a recap of the series. Mind you, I did read one recap (the titular first book in the series) and it summed up that reading each was unnecessary, having alread read the series--and owning about two thirds.

What I did read was the info on the characters--and the relationships of the characters--with the hopes of learning something new on them--I didn't--and I took the quiz at the end of the book too. From the various reviews, I walked into this not expecting much. You don't learn anything new. For someone who enjoyed the series, I feel this would just be a way to feel 'complete' after the series is done with out rereading. I'm glad I got this from the library and didn't spend my money on it.

Getting out of my box and looking at it from the standpoint of someone who hasn't read the series, it's a definite way to learn everything about Mead's world with out the commitment of actually reading the whole series. But, for those who haven't read the series, I'd say read that before this. The series gives life to each of the characters that this Reader's Digest just doesn't--also, it's a cheater's way at reading the series in my opinion.

As a closing, my rating is mixed. Looking at it from someone who who read the series, I'd give t o two stars--which will be reflected on Goodreads. I found nothing special from this. But, looking at a new reader's standpoint, I'd maybe boost it up a half star to a star. Also, I did take the quiz at the end. 24/30

As always,
Ali
